Chancellor University Hires CEO
Chancellor University President George Kidd announced recently that education industry veteran Robert H. "Bob" Barker, Jr., has joined the university as chief executive officer.
"There is no one better qualified to lead our growth than Bob Barker," said Kidd. "We've spent the past 18 months working hard to strengthen the academic structure at Chancellor -- the foundation is strong and everything is in place to begin growing our student enrollment."
Barker is known as an innovative educational entrepreneur having founded EDU Interactive and Barker Educational Services, companies that partner with accredited colleges and universities to increase enrollment through marketing, lead generation and retention services. As executive vice president at the University of Phoenix, Barker grew enrollment across the U.S. He also provided leadership in several key markets and advanced innovations such as the hybrid online/campus program.
"My vision for the future of the university, and the new Jack Welch Management Institute MBA program at Chancellor, is to grow enrollment, expand the reach of our quality academic programs, and provide the opportunity for our students to succeed all across the U.S. and the globe," said Barker.
Jack Welch, who joined forces with Chancellor to launch the university's new MBA program, said, "Bob knows education in his bones, both online and on campus, and he's also been the CEO of his own company. That's a powerful combination. I know he's got the right experience to lead and grow our programs in exciting ways." Certificate, associate, bachelor and graduate degree programs are offered online and at Chancellor University's Cleveland campus.

Chancellor University Announces
Jack Welch Management Institute Program Start Date
CLEVELAND, O.H., Oct. 27, 2009 – Chancellor University announced today that the Jack Welch Management Institute MBA and Master in Management classes will begin online and at the school’s Cleveland campus starting Jan. 4, 2010.
The start of classes had been delayed due to Jack Welch’s recent bout with discitis, a rare but curable infection of the spine. Mr. Welch has fully recovered and is currently working with Chancellor University officials to finalize coursework and curriculum.
“I’m thrilled about the launch of the program in January; everything has really come together,” Jack Welch said Tuesday. “A terrific team of highly respected academics and experienced practitioners has contributed to courses that do exactly what we envisioned – offer an MBA that is relevant, powerful, and unique, filled with real-world utility and infused with a management philosophy I deeply believe in.”
Chancellor continues to add to the leadership and academic teams, most recently with Steve Kerr who led GE’s Leadership Development Center in Crotonville, N.Y., and the executive education program at Goldman Sachs. Kerr has also been on the business school faculties of Ohio State University, the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California, where he was dean of the faculty and director of the Ph.D. program. As executive director of the Jack Welch Management Institute, Kerr will work with Welch and the faculty on all aspects of the academic program.
“I wanted to work with Jack again, especially on a project that will have such a significant impact on thousands of students, from working men and women in mid-career to entrepreneurs, veterans and people reentering the workforce,” said Kerr. “Classes will be small, students and faculty will get input from Jack, and the curriculum will be current and relevant to today’s news. I think the Jack Welch MBA will be unlike any other business degree in the marketplace.”
Chancellor University joined forces with Jack Welch, the “Manager of the Century” and a lifelong educator, to launch a unique MBA program aimed at giving students around the world and at every career level the tools to transform their lives and businesses.
The Jack Welch Management Institute will take a progressive approach to business education. Its curriculum will offer students innovative coursework designed for a global business environment, with instruction on topics from leadership, people management, and career development, to strategy and finance, but it will be supercharged with Jack Welch’s winning business practices and principles and refreshed weekly with online video updates from Jack Welch on breaking business news and topics.
Classes will be offered online and at Chancellor University’s Cleveland campus. For more information about the Jack Welch Management Institute, or to enroll in the program, go to www.jwmi.com.

Chancellor University Unveils the New Jack Welch Management Institute at the Prestigious National Society for Human Resource Management Annual Conference
Thousands visit the new JWMI/CU booth
New Orleans, LA - Just a few days after announcing the Jack Welch Management Institute (JWMI) at Chancellor University (CU), the program and university were showcased at the 61st Annual Conference & Exposition of the Society for Human Resource Management (www.shrm.org) (SHRM) in New Orleans, LA where Jack Welch was the keynote speaker.
Over four days, those working the new JWMI/CU booth gathered 475 lead cards, distributed 1500 brochures, and took 33 applications for Jack Welch MBA on the spot. The booth graphics were designed by Wiretree LLC, the same group that created the websites for Chancellor University (www.ChancellorU.edu) and the Jack Welch Management Institute (www.jwmi.com), as well as designed the new marketing materials for JWMI.
“The booth, the materials, and Jack Welch were all big hits,” according to Shaun Redgate, COO. “Visitors to the booth were in the thousands.”
“We were overwhelmed by the great response that individuals had to the JWMI booth at the SHRM conference,” said Julie Yost, Executive Director of Enrollment Services. “There were ten individuals working the booth from Chancellor University, and everyone was busy throughout the event. Jack Welch also met with everyone working the booth before the conference for a brainstorming session. Mr. Welch encouraged the group to keep up their energy and excitement about the new program.”
Jack Welch kicked off the conference with the opening address. Says Yost, “He energized the crowd with his candor and wisdom, and discussed the new Jack Welch Management Institute at Chancellor University constantly throughout his comments.”
Joanne Landers, Admissions Advisor, agreed, stating, “As Jack spoke during the opening session Sunday night there was a sense of electricity and fervor for what he had to say throughout the room. During his talk, Mr. Welch kept referencing the booth number which helped draw the crowds to the booth. Visitors to the booth were extremely excited, wanting more information about the JWMI program and Chancellor University. We had a great energy level as we worked the booth, and the excitement peaked when Jack and Suzy Welch stopped by. This is truly an exciting time for Chancellor University!”
Concludes Redgate, “Overall, Jack Welch and the team believe the event was truly a success and were pleased with the result. Both our announcement of the Jack Welch Management Institute at Chancellor University and Mr. Welch’s comments at the SHRM conference continue to generate very high interest in the MBA program. We definitely believe this is a win-win for all involved.”
