College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Chancellor University strongly believes that the ability to understand and explain oneself and one's world is crucial to success in life both professionally and personally. The activities of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences lays the foundation for implementing this belief by offering courses in a range of disciplines that explore the various ways we understand human complexity. The central mission of the School is to provide the common General Education core controlled by the following Philosophy and Statement of Purpose:

General Education Philosophy
General education is central to any university curriculum because it acquaints students with the ways in which various disciplines and cultures create and organize knowledge. In doing so, it provides students the broad knowledge base and the critical thinking and communication skills they need to pursue not only a depth of knowledge in their major field but also a lifetime of learning that is the hallmark of an educated person. Consequently, the Chancellor University General Education Core requires students to participate in course work across the range of the arts and sciences disciplines and from a variety of cultural perspectives.

Purpose
The General Education Program for all undergraduates is designed to provide an intellectually stimulating and focused liberal arts foundation. It provides students with the opportunity to develop and exercise cognitive and analytical abilities that enable them to study in depth in their major field. These abilities are also key to lifelong learning. Important to this process is the development of the students' ability to think critically and to express themselves effectively across a wide range of academic approaches to human experience. The aim of the General Education Program is to prepare students with the intellectual skills, multicultural awareness, and social responsibility to live in a complex, interdependent world.
